The smile is a cover letter and also a part of the body that many people forget. Dental departments estimate that eight out of ten People have oral health problems. The lack of education on hygiene and bad eating habits is generating everything from cavities to serious pathologies. In this sense, we must consider the following five points as alerts that our smile is in danger.

1.- Careless Feeding

Chewing ice, drinking too much coffee, biting into sticky foods, overconsumption of crunchy ingredients and excessive consumption of alcohol and soft drinks are the worst enemies of teeth . For one thing, teeth are delicate pieces of bone and could easily break if extra force is exerted with hard foods. Coffee, wine, tea, cocoa and cigarettes stain teeth, also generating sensitivity to cold, heat or sweets.


2.- Not brushing your teeth after eating

After eating foods with a high content of sugars or carbohydrates, they stimulate the proliferation of certain bacteria that quickly attack tooth enamel. For that reason, it is important to brush your teeth immediately after consuming them. On the other side, if consume foods with high acid content such as citrus fruits, it is recommended to consume a glass of water afterwards to dilute the acid and not brush your teeth in the next 30 minutes.


3.- Not Using regular Dental floss

At least once a day it is recommended to use dental floss to remove possible food debris between the gum and the tooth . Among the most common consequences of not using this practice are bleeding gums due to plaque accumulation, tooth loss, cavities and dental pigmentation.


4.- Using an old Toothbrush


It is recommended to use a toothbrush for a maximum of three months, after that time it can cause small wounds, irritation or discomfort in the gums . In addition, worn bristles could hardly do a proper and thorough cleaning. The American Dental Association recommends rinsing your toothbrush under running water and storing it individually, away from other people's.


5.- Go to the dentist only when there is discomfort


Visits to the dentist should be, like those of the family doctor , at least once a year for general control. In these periodic consultations, specialists can identify oral care flaws that the patient can improve, make recommendations and solve problems that may have become visible.
